What is SEO?

SEO is the abbreviation for the term ‘Search Engine Optimization’. Basically is is making a website more search engine friendly so that it will appears higher in the search engines for a particular keyword or keyword phrase.

Is SEO is a one-time process?

No, SEO is actually a continuous process. After the initial optimization, the website should be regularly evaluated and adjustments may need to be made.

If my website ranks lower in Google searches, what could be the possible reasons for it?

It could be due to a variety of reasons, and to know that fully, one may have to take a closer look at the algorithm used by Google. Since it is not a possibility, webmasters across the world have done some reverse engineering of sorts and come up with few useful observations. Few of those are given below.

  • Irrelevant content and too much stuffing of keywords.

  • TITLE tag not properly used or TITLE tag content is vacant or no sufficient keywords in the TITLE tag

  • No content in ALT tag in the graphic links.

  • No keywords in the first 250 words in each page or lesser word counts.

  • Less number of pages. It should not be very high either.

  • Lack of link popularity.

  • Not using heading tags appropriately.

  • Too much use of Flash in the webpage.

Is it necessary to SEO all pages in a website?

Yes, it is. Any webpage can be a potential landing point for a user depending on the keyword or phrase searched for in the search engine. In short, it is not only the home page that can recieve search engine traffic.

How long will take for the SEO efforts to take effect?

As it is seen, it will take anywhere between 1-2 months for an SEO-zed website to show marked improvements in its page rankings. For a new website, it could take as much as 120 days to see where it stands in Google rankings.

Will dynamic pages affect page rankings?

It depends. It is acceptable for the page URL to end with a .php or .asp. But the spider can’t crawl URLs with query strings such as ‘school.asp?param1=yes&param2=no’, and hence such URLs are generally dropped.

How much does search engine optimization usually cost?

The cost of SEO can variy depending on the design, content, current page rankings and the number of pages the website has. Before you choose a SEO company it is advisable to spend some time studying the market first. See our SEO plan information and prices here.
